What is Maundy Thursday?
The holy scriptures have well documented the last week of Jesus' earthly life, which was the week of Passover in the Jewish faith, when hundreds of thousands of Jewish people would make the pilgrimage to Jerusalem. A Short Chronology of Holy Week
Easter is a moveable feast, and falls on a different date each year, but it's always Sunday. Easter is set for the first Sunday after the first full moon after the vernal equinox. It often coincides with Passover, which is based on the Hebrew calendar. Holy Week is the last week of Jesus' earthly life. We track it during the week before Easter, to commemorate the crucial events leading up to the crucifixion and resurrection. The writers of the four gospels reconstructed Jesus

Ash Wednesday and Lent
Lent is a period of 40 days leading up to Easter in which people prepare themselves to celebrate the resurrection of Jesus Christ, often by fasting and prayer. The 40 days is a reference to the 40-day period in which Jesus fasted in the desert in preparation for beginning his ministry. Forty days symbolizes a time of testing in the Bible: 40 days of rain for the flood, 40 days on the mountain for Moses to receive the ten commandments (twice), 40 days that Jesus spent on ear

When Bad Weather Interferes with Church Services
Every once in a while, winter storms or bad road conditions force us to cancel Sunday morning services. We almost made it through January, but a storm forecast for Saturday and Sunday has caused us to cancel services on January 25th. That sure beats January of last year, when three out of four Sundays were canceled! We love to get to together to worship God, but sometimes it may be dangerous for people to get to the church. When this happens, we communicate the decision throu

Rummage Sale Time at FCC!
The next rummage sale at FCC has been postponed from October to November. It will be held on Friday November 7 and Saturday November 8th from 9AM to 4PM each day. Sprucing Up for Homecoming
Power washing the marquee. Every Homecoming service involves preparations, from planning the service to inviting friends to organizing a feast. This year, however, we are celebrating the 100th anniversary of our church building at First and Kentucky Streets. Therefore, we want the building itself to look its best. The first order of events was the 99-year-old pipe organ, which quit working almost a year ago. A massive fundraising and repair project has been going on ever sinc
