Sermon: The Death of Death
The FCC sermon for November 16th is titled The Death of Death. The relevant scripture is I Corinthians 15: 50-58 . 50 Now I say this, brothers and sisters, that flesh and blood cannot inherit the kingdom of God; nor does the perishable inherit the imperishable. 51 Behold, I am telling you a mystery; we will not all sleep, but we will all be changed, 52 in a moment, in the twinkling of an eye, at the last trumpet; for the trumpet will sound, and the dead will be raised imperis

It Is Well With My Soul
Lee Ann Strunk wrote this tribute to her grandmother for an FCC Advent publication years ago. This will begin a series of stories shared by FCC members. My maternal grandmother, Eugenia Shelley Gover, was a lifelong inspiration to many. She always had a smile on her face, worked as a florist for 50 years before it became fashionable for women to work outside the home, and was active in church, civic, and community activities. She was born in 1903, in a generation of change. A

Sermon: The Resurrection Body
Pastor Tibbs' sermon for November 9th is titled The Resurrection Body. The relevant scripture is I Corinthians 15: 35-49 . 35 But someone will say, “How are the dead raised? And with what kind of body do they come?” 36 You fool! That which you sow does not come to life unless it dies; 37 and that which you sow, you do not sow the body which is to be, but a bare grain, perhaps of wheat or of something else. 38 But God gives it a body just as He wished, and to each of the seeds

Flashback to 1984: FCC Drama Club Debut
In compiling the church's history, one of the more intriguing tidbits was the Drama Club that FCC launched in the 1980s. This came up late in the process, but as the Walk Through History exhibit was set up for Homecoming, I saw that it was a pretty big project, spanning several years. Quite a few performances were archived in photos. I managed to snap a couple of pics about the club's first offering, a Neil Simon play titled "God's Favorite," a modern day retelling of the bo

Concerning the Resurrection
We have spent the month of October with our emphasis being the fifteenth chapter of I Corinthians. Within this text we find the most comprehensive teaching in all the Bible concerning the resurrection. As we prepare for our All Saints Service next week, it is important to realize the promise of our resurrection that we have in and through the work of our Lord on that first Easter morning! For in the message before that empty tomb, we find the most emphatic event (with its dua

What's Happening in November at FCC
November 2 is the date that Daylight Saving Time ends. Don't forget to set your clocks back one hour Saturday night before you go to sleep, or else you will be an hour early for church! This is not as problematic as being an hour late, as can happen in the spring, but you may as well sleep a little later. November 2 is also All Saint's Day at FCC. This is a day set aside to honor those who have passed on over the past year. Make sure your family members and friends are incl

Don't Miss the FCC Fall Festival!
Don't you just love autumn? There's so many ways to enjoy it! One of them is our annual Fall Festival. This year's festivities will take place Wednesday evening, October 29th, beginning at 5:30 PM. Bring the kids in costume so they can visit decorated cars in our parking lot for trunk-or-treat, and collect candy from each of them! Afterward, they will enjoy a top-your-own hotdog bar with chips and drinks in our picnic area, and then proceed to the cupcake walk for dessert! Th
