Martin Luther
As a ministry grows and flourishes, it may become burdened with rituals, rules, traditions, and all kinds of bells and whistles that aren't necessary. Every once in a while, someone needs to steer things back to the basics. In the Christian church, that means focusing on Jesus Christ. The adult Sunday School class at FCC has been studying the life and philosophy of Martin Luther, who was one of those reformers. We began with a movie provided by Pastor Tibbs, and continue with

Sermon: Doubt and Fear
The FCC sermon for January 11th was delivered by Associate Pastor Ronnie Mitchell, and was titled Doubt and Fear. He talked about how to overcome them with courage and faith. He hadn't prepared a sermon, so he told three stories about doubts and fears, the last one being deeply personal. We appreciate Rev. Mitchell's willingness to step up at the last minute to deliver a sermon. You can see previous sermons at our YouTube channel . Catch them live-streamed on Sunday mornings

A Lesson He'll Never Forget
I guess when I was growing up that I may have been a little rambunctious, probably somewhere between Tom Sawyer and Huck Finn. Not a little angel but also not a little devil. I will never forget a lesson my father taught me about taking responsibility for my actions. I grew up in a neighborhood with plenty of boys my age. We always got up early during the summer because there was plenty of mischief that required our attention and we certainly wanted to have plenty of time to

The Calendar for January 2026 at FCC
Happy New Year! As we hang our new calendars and make our resolutions, let's keep in mind what we can do in 2026 to show our love for our Father in heaven and His son Jesus Christ. We can dedicate ourselves to learning more about His word; carrying out Jesus' commands to spread the Gospel and help those in need; and strengthening our faith with prayer, study, and worship. Be aware of winter weather. If there is snow, ice, or a dire forecast, check our Facebook group to see i

Advent Stories: That is Christmas!
When asked to write about what Advent means to us, my first thought went to Christmas Eve. I cannot imagine being anywhere else on Christmas Eve other than at First Christian Church. Standing there with my husband and son on either side of me, candle in hand, listening to the beloved story of the birth of our Christ, that is Christmas! Standing there with other church members who are my 'family,' singing "Silent Night," that is Christmas! All of us with that special feeling

Advent Stories: Memories of Childhood Christmas
I had five brothers and a sister. We grew up in North Dakota during the depression and were lucky to have a shrub in the house. We had real candles on the tree. We couldn't leave the room if the candles were lit or it would set everything on fire. All we knew to do was hang a sock. When I went to check mine, there was an orange on top and that made me happy. There were a few other things in there, and a can of Dutch Cleanser in the bottom. My brother had done that. Everybody

Advent Sermon: Christmas Prewritten
The fourth Sunday of Advent is when we light a candle to represent the love Jesus brought to the world. The sermon for December 21st is titled Christmas Prewritten, based on the scripture from Isaiah 9: 6-7 . 6 For a Child will be born to us, a Son will be given to us; And the government will [a]rest on His shoulders; And His name will be called Wonderful Counselor, Mighty God, Eternal Father, Prince of Peace. 7 There will be no end to the increase of His government or of pea

Advent Story: An Inconvenient Christmas
The year 2000 was my youngest daughter's first Christmas with the family in America. She was two and a half, and I wanted it to be perfect. After the kids finally went to sleep the night before, I stayed up very late to arrange Christmas just so, as parents of small children do. After about an hour's sleep, my husband woke me up to help him with a nosebleed. The bathroom already looked like a murder scene. We couldn't get the bleeding stopped, and after a couple of hours we d
