December will be chock-full of activities at First Christian Church, all designed to celebrate the miraculous birth of our Lord and Savior! We hope you can join us in this joyous season of worship, remembrance, love, and fellowship.

Elders for the month of December will be Lee Ann Strunk and Bertha Prewitt. Deacons for December are Robert Bales, Joyce Brown, Jerry Blankenship, and Zoie Burke. The Wednesday night Bible study for adults is going on hiatus during December due to so many other Christmas activities. We will return to our study of the book of Romans in January.

The Christmas season at FCC officially opens with the first Sunday of Advent on November 30. The four weeks of Advent celebrate hope, peace, joy, and love, so on the 30th we will light a candle to represent the hope that Jesus brought to the world. The Sunday service will consist of Christmas hymns and scripture readings, plus our Hanging of the Greens ceremony, where the congregation will join together to finish the Christmas decorations.

December 1 (Monday, 7PM) sees the return of our annual Christmas organ concert! We have three guest organists, Steve Dickerson, Clay Howard, and William Robinson, who will play Christmas and classical music, and a performance by our in-house musicians. A reception with fancy Christmas treats will follow in the Buttermore lounge.

December 4 (Thursday morning) will be a work day to set up the fellowship hall for the bazaar.

December 5 (Friday morning) will be a work day to prepare chicken salad for the luncheon on Saturday.

December 6 (Saturday) is our annual Christmas bazaar and luncheon. Share our post about it, and invite everyone you know.

December 7, the second Sunday of Advent, we will light a candle to celebrate the peace that Jesus brought to the world. There will also be a combined elders and board meeting after the service.

December 9 (Tuesday) is our ladies' Christmas party at 6PM. Dinner is potluck; bring a salad or dessert of any kind. There will be an optional gift swap in which your revealed gift may be stolen by someone else. Oh yeah, and a group picture, as always.

December 14 (Sunday) is the third Sunday of Advent, when we light a candle to represent the joy that Jesus Christ brought into the world. There will also be a Christmas feast after the worship service. The church youth will present their Christmas talent show after the feast.

December 19 (Friday) Faith Quest will have a lock-in event. See Hilary for details.

December 21 is the fourth Sunday of Advent, in which a candle will be lit to celebrate the love that Jesus brought into the world.

December 24 (Wednesday) is the annual FCC Christmas Eve candlelight service. This consists of scripture readings that tell the story of Jesus' miraculous birth and the congregation singing traditional Christmas hymns. The fifth Advent candle, called the Christ candle, will be lit to celebrate His birth. It ends with communion and an a cappella singing of "Silent Night" as we pass candlelight around to everyone.

May hope, peace, joy, and love be with you and yours this Christmas season.
