Finding Peace

Don Piper wrote his story of death and life in a book titled 90 Minutes in Heaven. He wrote... "a light enveloped me, with a brilliance beyond earthly comprehension or description. Only that. In my next moment of awareness, I was standing heaven... I became aware of a large crowd of people surrounding me, shouting and praising God."

My husband, Phil Fox, used practically the same words to describe what happened to him on July 18, 2011. He saw a brilliant light, and standing in that light were his parents, my parents, his grandparents which included a grandfather he'd never met, friends, and someone he said he didn't recognize. All of the "welcoming committee" were smiling and laughing! When he saw the grandfather he'd never met on earth, Phil pointed him and said, "I want to talk to you when I come back here!"

This heavenly visit occurred while Phil was undergoing a PET scan at Brown Cancer Center in Louisville. It was the next day, after reviewing the results of the scan, we received the news that the melanoma was beyond treatments for him.

Phil went back to heaven to talk with his grandfather on August 19, 2011 at 1:15 p.m. Whenever I feel sad about being without the man I've known and loved since we were sixteen years old, I remind myself that he's walking and talking with his loved ones in that glorious home we call HEAVEN. And Phil did always enjoy good company!

Thank you, Lord, for allowing Phil to share his visit to Heaven with his family. It had brought us that "peace that passes all understanding." Amen.
