Twenty Years of Service
There are millions of American children who depend on school lunches, which may often be the most filling and nutritious meal of the day for them. The need was so great that schools began serving breakfast, too. Studies show that well-fed children do better academically as well as physically. But there are only 180 school days in a year- what do those children eat on days that there is no school? In 2005, Sam and Ed Tye presented the FCC board with an idea to feed hungry scho

February 2026 at First Christian Church
February is the shortest month, and often the cruelest month weather-wise, but to make up for it, people have filled it with holidays. There will be Groundhog Day, Super Bowl Sunday, Valentine's Day, Lunar New Year, Mardi Gras, Ash Wednesday, and President's Day. Here at FCC, we are rounding the corner on winter and looking forward to springtime and the many activities leading to the most holy of all holidays, Easter Sunday on April 5th. Elders for February are Rick Strunk an

When Bad Weather Interferes with Church Services
Every once in a while, winter storms or bad road conditions force us to cancel Sunday morning services. We almost made it through January, but a storm forecast for Saturday and Sunday has caused us to cancel services on January 25th. That sure beats January of last year, when three out of four Sundays were canceled! We love to get to together to worship God, but sometimes it may be dangerous for people to get to the church. When this happens, we communicate the decision throu

Finding Peace
Don Piper wrote his story of death and life in a book titled 90 Minutes in Heaven . He wrote... "a light enveloped me, with a brilliance beyond earthly comprehension or description. Only that. In my next moment of awareness, I was standing heaven... I became aware of a large crowd of people surrounding me, shouting and praising God." My husband, Phil Fox, used practically the same words to describe what happened to him on July 18, 2011. He saw a brilliant light, and standing

Sermon: A Recipe for the Miraculous
Pastor Tibbs' sermon for January 18th is titled A Recipe for the Miraculous. The relevant scripture is I Kings 17: 8-16 . 8 Then the word of the Lord came to him [Elijah], saying, 9 “Arise, go to Zarephath, which belongs to Sidon, and stay there; behold, I have commanded a widow there to provide food for you.” 10 So he arose and went to Zarephath, and when he came to the entrance of the city, behold, a widow was there gathering sticks; and he called to her and said, “Please g

Martin Luther
As a ministry grows and flourishes, it may become burdened with rituals, rules, traditions, and all kinds of bells and whistles that aren't necessary. Every once in a while, someone needs to steer things back to the basics. In the Christian church, that means focusing on Jesus Christ. The adult Sunday School class at FCC has been studying the life and philosophy of Martin Luther, who was one of those reformers. We began with a movie provided by Pastor Tibbs, and continue with

Sermon: Doubt and Fear
The FCC sermon for January 11th was delivered by Associate Pastor Ronnie Mitchell, and was titled Doubt and Fear. He talked about how to overcome them with courage and faith. He hadn't prepared a sermon, so he told three stories about doubts and fears, the last one being deeply personal. We appreciate Rev. Mitchell's willingness to step up at the last minute to deliver a sermon. You can see previous sermons at our YouTube channel . Catch them live-streamed on Sunday mornings

A Lesson He'll Never Forget
I guess when I was growing up that I may have been a little rambunctious, probably somewhere between Tom Sawyer and Huck Finn. Not a little angel but also not a little devil. I will never forget a lesson my father taught me about taking responsibility for my actions. I grew up in a neighborhood with plenty of boys my age. We always got up early during the summer because there was plenty of mischief that required our attention and we certainly wanted to have plenty of time to

Sermon: Resolutions

It is based on the scripture found in John 21:15 . 15 Now when they had finished breakfast, Jesus *said to Simon Peter, “Simon, son of John, do you [a]love Me more than these?” He *said to Him, “Yes, Lord; You know that I [b]love You.” He *said to him, “Tend My lambs.” You can see previous sermons at our YouTube channel . The Calendar for January 2026 at FCC
Happy New Year! As we hang our new calendars and make our resolutions, let's keep in mind what we can do in 2026 to show our love for our Father in heaven and His son Jesus Christ. We can dedicate ourselves to learning more about His word; carrying out Jesus' commands to spread the Gospel and help those in need; and strengthening our faith with prayer, study, and worship. Be aware of winter weather. If there is snow, ice, or a dire forecast, check our Facebook group to see i
