Our homecoming celebration on September 28th will mark the 100th anniversary of our church building. Can you spot how it is now different from the vintage postcard image above? The most noticeable difference is that the stairs around the corner have been replaced with a ramp and steps leading down to the basement level. The stairs inside were replaced with an elevator. The stone walls beside the main steps were replaced with a metal balustrade. In the picture below, you can see that the facings on the cornerstone used to have the year on the left and First Church of Christ on the right.

In the homecoming pictures shown here, taken some time in the 1930s, there were too many people to get into one picture -at least without blocking the street. The men crowded onto the stairs and sidewalk. Look closely, and you'll see one fellow in the window! The women lined up on the green space in front of the church. Aren't those dresses fabulous?

We suspect there may have been another picture taken of the children, but we haven't found it yet.

Here is what the front of the sanctuary looked like before the 1975 remodel. The remodel gave us much more room for a choir, and a larger stage area that can be modified for special presentations. It's big enough for a grand piano and a Christmas tree at the same time! Many of the old pews with folding seats were salvaged, and we gave the last of them away just a couple of years ago. The balcony seating area still has some.

The FCC bell choir got its start in 1987 with 18 members. Can you find the one who is still playing bells today? Notice the stage in the background was set for The Last Supper.

This group picture was a homecoming service sometime in the 1980s. If you recall exactly what year, I'd like to know. We don't do a group portrait every year, but there have been quite a few. The group picture in the "People" section of the main page was taken in 2022.
These pictures are a tiny fraction of the historical photos we will be sharing at our homecoming service in a couple of weeks. We also have artifacts, archives, and stories to share in a history museum, church tours, and a presentation during the worship service. We hope to see you there!
